Community Alert: Families Across Southwest Atlanta — Campbellton Road Needs Us Now

This is a call to protect our children, our elders, and every generation that travels Campbellton Road

Campbellton Road is one of Atlanta’s deadliest corridors, and families across Southwest Atlanta are feeling the impact every single day, sadly enough.  According to Propel ATL, five people walking or biking have been killed on Campbellton Road since January 2025, including elders, young adults, and community members simply trying to do the basics like getting home or to work or running very necessary errands.

These tragedies are preventable, and they are happening in neighborhoods filled with children, parents, grandparents, and caregivers who deserve safe streets.

💔 Why Campbellton Road Is in Crisis

Propel ATL reports that Campbellton Road has long been one of the most dangerous streets in our city, with fatal crashes often overlooked because victims are unhoused, undocumented, or simply not prioritized in public conversation.

In the first three months of 2026 alone, three of Atlanta’s nine traffic deaths occurred on Campbellton Road.  This is not just a statistic; it is a generational safety emergency.

🛑 Families Deserve Better

Propel ATL’s mission is simple and powerful: to transform Atlanta’s streets into safe, inclusive, thriving spaces where people can ride, walk, and roll. That mission includes our children walking to school, our elders waiting for the bus, and our neighbors biking and walking to work.

And when you stop and really think about who uses Campbellton Road every single day, the urgency becomes undeniable.

Campbellton Road is home to countless apartment communities, the Andrew and Walter Young YMCA, a senior living facility, multiple daycare centers, and even Southwest Veterinary Clinic. Families, children, seniors, workers, and caregivers rely on this corridor from morning until night. And if all of these essential places sit directly on Campbellton Road, imagine the number of families tucked into every side street branching off of it.

This is a generational safety issue, and we cannot ignore it.

We are asking our community and surrounding communities to stand together and protect one another by signing the Stand With Campbellton Road petition. We have a voice, and it is time for that voice to be heard, loudly, clearly, and collectively.

Our safety should never depend on luck. It should depend on the proper protections and procedures which exist throughout Atlanta, especially in areas like Buckhead, and must be implemented here in Southwest Atlanta as well.

🛠️ What Needs to Change

Propel ATL strongly supports immediate safety improvements, including:

• Reducing the number of lanes
• Adding pedestrian refuge islands
• Slowing vehicle speeds
• Improving bus stop safety

These changes save lives; however, they require community pressure. Let's turn up the pressure and let it be felt. 

📣 Why Your Voice Matters

Propel ATL is pushing the City of Atlanta to fund and implement the Fatal Crash Review Commission’s recommendations for Campbellton Road; however, they cannot and will not do it alone.  Every parent, grandparent, teen, and neighbor who signs strengthens the call for change.
