⭐ My 4 Questions Journalist Spotlight: Sharing My Macaroni KID Journey Across Metro Atlanta

When Mitch Leff of Leff & Associates invited me to appear on his respected 4 Questions Journalist Spotlight series, I knew it would be special; however, I did not realize just how meaningful it would be to share my story with Metro Atlanta families. Our conversation beautifully captured the heart, history, and future of Macaroni KID, and it gave me the chance to reflect on the incredible journey I have had serving East Atlanta, Decatur, and College Park.

In the interview, I opened up with authenticity, gratitude, and the same energy and synergy I bring to my three Macaroni KID communities every single week. This spotlight was not just about me.  It was about the families, neighborhoods, and local businesses which have grown with me over the past twelve years and counting.

Looking Back at the Three Eras of Macaroni KID

As I shared with Mitch, Macaroni KID has gone through three powerful eras, which I affectionately call Macaroni KID 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. Each stage shaped the brand, the mission, and the magic we bring to families nationwide.

Macaroni KID 1.0 — The Founders’ Vision

Macaroni KID began with Joyce Shulman and Eric Cohen, a dynamic couple who believed deeply in local storytelling and family‑focused connection. Their motto, often joked about as “When pigs fly”, reflected their bold dream of building a national network of community‑driven publishers. Founded in New York, they did just that, and the brand grew from just a few to more than three sites nationwide.

I joined Macaroni KID during this era as an early adopter, a believer, and a builder. I poured my heart and soul into East Atlanta Macaroni KID, and that passion soon expanded into Decatur Macaroni KID.  Those early years continued to shape me not only as a publisher but also broadened my perspective as a publicist, as I was now experiencing both sides of the coin, so to speak.  I became one of the most dedicated publishers in the company, eventually serving as the DEI Community Leader and a trusted business consultant to Joyce. I loved the beautiful developments we created together, even the growing pains, because every challenge strengthened our foundation and helped us grow into the vibrant, connected community we became.

Macaroni KID 2.0 — The Shark Tank Era

In August 2020, Macaroni KID entered a bold new chapter when Jamie and Brian Ratner acquired the brand. Their entrepreneurial spark brought fresh energy, national visibility, and a renewed sense of momentum. Their appearance on Shark Tank became a defining moment, merging Certified Kid and Macaroni KID into one powerful, unified platform. We even welcomed the beloved family brand Hulafrog, which had a strong presence in several Macaroni KID communities.

I affectionately call this era the “Shark Tank union”, a time fueled by innovation, expansion, and resilience. Even as the pandemic reshaped daily life in 2020 and beyond, I stayed committed to serving families across Metro Atlanta. I continued growing my two editions, East Atlanta and Decatur, and eventually expanded again to welcome College Park Macaroni KID. Through every challenge, I remained focused on uplifting families, supporting local businesses, and keeping our communities connected during truly unprecedented times.

Macaroni KID 3.0 — The Mark Rubin Era

Today, Macaroni KID is in its newest chapter under Mark Rubin, whose background in gaming and digital strategy brings a fresh, winning mentality. I call this era “the exciting stage of change and taking things higher,” a time driven by creativity, technology, and a commitment to becoming number one in family media. Have you seen our dynamic new calendar and newsletter? We are shining brightly

Mark’s leadership aligns beautifully with my forward‑thinking approach. I have witnessed every transformation, embraced every challenge, and continue to elevate my editions with passion and purpose.
